M1903 Remington Serial Number Lookup: Remingtons started production in 1941 with serial number 3,000,000, it was during this time that the finger grooved walnut stock was replaced by cheaper versions and the M1903-A3 was born.
1903A3 RemingtonRemington WWII rifle builder. Barrel year: Remington 09/1943 Stock: Scant Grip stock using 'stock bolts' not pins. 1903A3-24 Sporter 30-06 Remington sporter, built in 1943, barrel produced also in 1943. The stock is made in the 1950's. I built this firearm, using the receiver as a starting point. I located a barrel that was damaged from someone trying to remove it from another receiver and they did some damage. I was able to repair the barrel, and then install it on the receiver. The head space was right on, everything functioned with no issues, when I test fired this rifle it was accurate and not problems was found. I had the engraving done to identify the caliber of the rifle. Receiver: This is the receiver, it is in really good condition, no problems here. All of the parts fit into it like a glove.
Purchasing a chewed up barrel:

The end result was a firearm that fired true and it was a excellent looking 30-06. Sometimes you can salvage a barrel, like this one, it was not damaged all that much. |
The stamps were put on the rifles to show that 3 things had been done:
1. Checked for working condition
2. Fired with proof round and checked for damage
3. Accepted by the Ordnance Department
The maker's mark and Ordnance wheel went on the center side of the stock below the back end of the receiver. The circled 'P' went on the pistol grip halfway between the trigger guard and bottom.
I will list the main stamps by manufacturer in sequence of use, plus other stamps put on.

IF YOUR ITEM HAS A SERIAL NUMBER CLOSE TO WHERE THE PART WAS CHANGED, USING THE EARLIER VERSION WILL ALWAYS BE RIGHT. THE PART HAD TO HAVE BEEN IN EXISTENCE WHEN THE ITEM WAS ASSEMBLED.
